Felix Serant

Deputy CEO

Felix Serant is responsible for innovative components of the COTES Engineering Projects. He is following searchingly all new global and Russian developments, carrying out his own research and development activities, and offering state-of-the-art and cost-efficient solutions to be implemented within each project of the company.

Felix Serant dedicated over 55 years of his life to the power generation industry. He is a recognized expert in the fields of boiler equipment design, low-grade power plant coal combustion, and ecological problems at thermal power plants. For many years (since 1967) the laboratory directed by him has developed and tested engineering solutions for the most of new large-scale boiler components at Berezovskaya and Slavyanskaya GRES’ 800 MW units, at Ekibastuzskaya and Nazarovskaya GRES’ 500 MW units, at Ermakovskaya GRES’ 300 MW untis, at Gusinoozerskaya GRES’ 200 MW units and more.

In 1992, which year was the ominous one for the power generation industry, Feliks Serant has founded COTES CJSC engineering company and succeeded in gathering a team of experienced heat and power engineers, while many professionals tried themselves in other areas. Thanks to him COTES participated in the projects of refurbishment and new construction of boiler equipment in Russia, Turkey, Poland, Romania, Macedonia, India, China, Kazakhstan, Yugoslavia, etc.

At the same time, Feliks Serant carried out actively the research projects, making improvements in the existing furnace and burner devices design and technologies and offering new ones. Feliks Serant is the author of 38 inventions and patents, he has published over 140 articles and monographs. One of his most recognized inventions is the design of the first in the world circular furnace boiler. It was developed by the team of co-thinkers directed by Feliks Serant. A commercial prototype of the boiler Е-820 has been successfully put into operation on June 4, 1997, at Novo-Irkutskaya CHPP. The boiler has already been recommended for implementation by the country’s largest energy companies two times: in 2000, by the Research and Development Board of RAO UES of Russia and in 2015, by Inter RAO PJSC.

Feliks Serant is the organizer of scientific and engineering cooperation with many research and development establishments, as well as with boiler equipment manufacturers. Dozens of engineering proposals and projects have been developed under direction and with full engagement of Felix Serant, as to refurbishment and creation of new boiler equipment for domestic and foreign power industries. Such proposals have been implemented at P-57R boiler of Ekibastuzskaya GRES-2 500 MW unit, TPE-214 boiler of Novosibirsk CHPP plants, PK-40 boiler of Belovskaya and Tom-Usinskaya GRES, PK-10 boiler of Yuzhno-Kuzbasskaya GRES, and many others, including the boilers in operation abroad (in Turkey, Poland, Romania, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, India, etc.).

Feliks Serant was awarded the Honored Professional of RAO UES of Russia and Excellent Worker of Power Generation Industry titles for his work results and achievements. In 1969 his name was entered in the Book of Honor of SO ORGRES, and in 1970 he was awarded the Medal for Valorous Labor. In 1980 Feliks Serant was awarded the Certificate of Merit by the Ministry of Energetics and got the titles of Labor Veteran with medal and Excellent Worker of Power Generation Industry. In 1996 Feliks Serant was awarded the Russian Federation Government Prize for the personal contribution in the development of Kansk and Achinsk field coal combustion technologies, as well as for the successful implementation of a unique 800 MW power unit at Berezovskaya GRES together with the group of top power industry engineers.

Feliks Serant graduated from Odessa Polytechnic University majoring in Thermal Power Units of Power Plants. In 1973 he successfully completed a part-time doctoral program and was awarded the degree of Candidate of Science (Engineering) after presentation of a thesis. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Science in 1999.
