COTES Engineering performed a project for re-equipment of the recovery boiler at the Ust-Ilimsk Wood and Paper Plant.
According to the Press Service of the Ilim Group, “upgrade works at recovery boiler No. 3 are currently ongoing: the equipment installation is in the final stage, and the utility lines are being brought. Refurbishment covers 95% of the facility, i.e. it is essentially a new boiler. It is the most advanced boiler both in terms of improved efficiency and safety systems.”
The refurbishment design for recovery boiler RB-1400, stage No. 3, performed by COTES Engineering, uses advanced technologies of the manufacturer of the boiler and auxiliary equipment (Valmet company, Finland), which have been successfully verified in the production, including the Ilim Group facilities. As a result of the recovery boiler refurbishment at the Ust-Ilimsk Wood and Paper Plant, its efficiency will increase from 1,400 to 1,750 tons of regenerated black lye per day.
The use of recovery boilers (RB) in the wood and paper production provides re-use of lignin remaining after the isolation of cellulose from the boiled wood. This provides both savings in production resources and significantly reduces the amount of harmful emissions into the environment.
Since July 2018, the COTES Engineering field supervision team has been working at the site to control construction, installation, and commissioning activities.
