TPP “Nikola Tesla A” Has Approved Conceptual Solutions (IDR) for the Refurbishment of A2 Boiler Developed by COTES Engineering

At the beginning of November, conceptual solutions (IDR) for A2 boiler with a steam capacity 700 t/hr at TPP “Nikola Tesla A” (Serbia) were approved, which were completed by COTES Engineering in August 2021. In September, the solutions were translated into Serbian, and in October, the IDR Report was under approval, including by the expert team formed by the Customer. The total decision on IDR approval was received by COTES on November 3, 2021.

COTES Engineering signed a contract and began a refurbishment of two units, A1 and A2, at TPP “Nikola Tesla A” in June 2021 as a part of international consortium consisting of 7 companies. The scope of work by COTES Engineering includes the performance of the entire set of engineering work for two boilers and boiler cells at A1 and A2 units: conceptual solutions, conceptual design for the boiler refurbishment, construction and detailed design documentation for the boiler part and pulverization systems, development of basic design documentation for the boiler refurbishment and all auxiliary equipment taking into account the development of process and construction sections, and installation of electrical equipment and automation..

Moreover, COTES scope of work includes the development of the facility’s BIM model. To date, laser scanning of the A1 and A2 units has already been made: boiler and turbine sections, de-aerator stack. Based on the obtained point cloud, the “as is” model has been developed. The key technical solutions are made in the space of the information BIM model reflecting the facility’s condition: de-installation, design for the refurbishment of the boiler cell, and design of the finished state after the refurbishment.

Today, the project team is working on the implementation of the conceptual design for the refurbishment of the A2 boiler at TPP “Nikola Tesla”. By the end of 2021, COTES will complete the “Conceptual Design” stage and start the development of detailed design documentation for the A2 boiler. The “Conceptual Solutions” and “Conceptual Design” stages for the A1 boiler will be implemented in 2022.

The entire work for the refurbishment of A1 and A2 units at TPP “Nikola Tesla A” will be completed in 2025.
