COTES launched a challenge in the social media to popularize the power engineer’s job among the youth and offers the colleagues from the power industry to share their career stories
The present time’s main feature is crazy rhythm of life. The speed of changes, information exchange, travels and appearing new technologies is rising as fast as a rocket is reaching the earth escape velocity. The job market is being changed as well. According to the Future of Jobs 2018 report as of 2018, yet by 2022 the automation process will destroy 75 million of workplaces, while creating 130 million of new ones.
The future of power engineer’s job
Machines will substitute secretaries, foremen, well borers, miners and other workers of today. However, more workplaces will appear for main demanded jobs. Power industry belongs to the fundamental ones, without which the technical progress is impossible. Machinery and technologies need for feed they take from both conventional power sources and modern renewable ones (small generators, solar energy, wind generation).
According to the analysis by European Commission, 2.8 million workplaces will be created in the EU countries in the renewable power industry by 2020. Just now 28 % of total electricity in Denmark is generated by wind, and 7 % of electricity in Germany is generated by solar batteries. The expert group of developers of New Jobs Book believes that more and more people will further generate the energy independently, re-distributing and selling the surplus of it. New jobs will emerge, such as a designer of portable energetic devices (clothes and shoes with microgenerators of energy), a climatic power engineer, who will be responsible for the operation modes of generation capacities by taking the climatic conditions into account, a designer of power collectors (he or she will design an energy collector that allows saving it for re-distribution in smart networks between peaks and falls).
How to become a power engineer
Power engineers aren’t born, they are made. Every one has his/her own career, sometimes it may be a dynasty or not; in some case the career path is simple, or a long and complicated in another. All of us are passionate professionals, we understand the importance of what we are doing to the economy, to the world and to each resident individually.
COTES Engineering decided to launch an unusual challenge to popularize the job through the Instagram and Facebook social media. COTES’ employees have already begun sharing their stories of the career in power industry. Our goal is to demonstrate the reality and prospects of the job to young people who are about to chose their profession. We tell about how each of us was engaged into the power industry and what we are thinking about it today.
We would be pleased if this initiative will bring new human resources into the industry, will contribute into the job prestige and will enhance the understanding of what the power engineer’s work is all over the world. We offer the colleagues from the power industry, design entities, generating companies, research and development institutes to support our initiative, by publishing a post with your story and putting the #PowerPeopleChallenge hashtag. See the first story on the COTES Engineering profile in Instagram.
