Since June 17–22, 2019, Alexander Puzyrev, Head of Complex Projects, has participated in the tests at the Longyuan test bench in Yantai (China) as a part of R&D activities to implement plasma-based burners in the boiler, stage No. 10, at the Troitskaya GRES. The decision on performing the tests has been made after COTES Engineering conducted a feasibility study for introduction of technology and equipment for black oil-free ignition.
During the tests performed in the full-scale plasma-based burner installed in the Longyuan bench, the test coal having characteristics close to those of the design coal at the Troitskaya GRES was burnt. Six burning modes were tested, and an optimum mode for the pulverized coal ignition using a plasma burner was chosen.
Later Russian delegation visited the Longyuan plant for the production of the plasma-based burners. Scale and level of the production setup left an impression upon the participants. Laboratory for simulating combustion and coal burning processes is a special place in the company.
A tour to the plants “Bajiao” (2 units, 670 MW each, built in 2019) and “Penglai” (2 units, 300 MW each, built in 2005) was organized for the Russian delegation. These plants do not use liquid or gaseous fuel, but both are surprisingly clean, do not have evaporations and stuffiness (due to open arrangements), are equipped with modern equipment and characterized by a high automation level.
